NBA Live 2005: Murphy Lee (feat Jazze Pha & Jody Breeze) – It’s In Da Game As such, it’s my pick for the game’s signature track. There were even tracks by Jermaine Dupri and Twista titled “Live Like Me” and “NBA Live 2004” which are technically title songs, but the remix of “Right Thurr” with its basketball-themed lyrics is the song that most gamers still fondly recall. NBA Live 2004’s soundtrack was mostly made up of basketball-themed remixes which could conceivably be considered signature songs in their own right. Of course, that’s mostly because it looped constantly in The Prelude, to the point where you could be forgiven for thinking it was the only song in the game! NBA Live 2004: Chingy – Right ThurrĬould it really be anything else? Check out the comments on that video, and you’ll see people talking about how they prefer the NBA Live 2004 remix to the original version (which of course was significantly more explicit). Anyway, if I had to pick a signature track out of all the songs in NBA 2K17, I’d suggest it would be “Me, Myself, & I” by G-Eazy, featuring Bebe Rexha. Indeed, I’m probably showing my age when I admit that basketball video game soundtracks are a source of new music for me, but then again, that was the case when I was in my early 20s, too. As such, I came to like quite a few of the songs. I played a lot of NBA 2K17 – over 2700 hours, in fact – so I ended up listening to its soundtrack on repeat for many, many loops. From the golden oldies to some more recent favourites, let’s take a look back…way back… Alternatively, you’ll think of the game when you hear the song elsewhere. Nevertheless, I believe it’s possible to pick one stand out track that you instantly remember when you fire up a game again.

With that in mind, what are some of the signature songs in the games we’ve loved over the years? Sometimes it’s difficult to pick just one, as certain soundtracks have been full of hits and bangers. This is particularly true if a title ended up including a remixed version of the song referencing basketball and gaming. This includes both the original tracks that were created for very old games, and licensed music that began appearing in titles around the early 2000s. Music is a strong nostalgic trigger in general, and when it comes to basketball games, hearing a song from its soundtrack will take you back to all the time you spent with it. There are many aspects to our nostalgia for video games, some of which don’t have anything to do with the gameplay itself. This week, I’m taking a look back at what we might consider the signature songs of some classic games (including a few recent classics).
